The Wrapp - Norse mythology, Eldritch horrors, and trying to sleep

Hey there, welcome to our latest edition of The Wrapp.

This is a chance for you to see what the various members of the Pocket Gamer team are planning to play over this weekend and will, hopefully, give you an idea of some of the weird and wonderful things we get up to when we’re not keeping you up to speed with the latest news and tips. Heck, you might even find a new game to play.

I’m kicking myself for not claiming Loop Hero on the Epic Games Store when it was free to keep last week. Despite my misgivings at how it feels like bribery, I’m not ashamed to admit that I’m always down for a free game, and I quite enjoyed Super Meat Boy Forever from what little I played when that was available. MR Racing may not be my cup of tea, however, although the beauty of it being free is that I’m not exactly spending any money.

In the meantime, is Castle Vs Castle out yet?

That Gods Vs. Horrors game is tickling my interest in the mythological and Eldritch, so I'll have to try that free demo. If all goes well, I'll test my patience with the standard ad-full version before breaking my piggy bank to get the full version. The Steampunk addition to PUBG Mobile has made me think twice about it, so I might spend some time building an account and see what features I can play with. Also, even though I'm not an Attack On Titan fan, it'd be cool to see my character suddenly become an angry, fleshy giant in the middle of a firefight.

Also, also, maybe Pokémon Sleep is what I need to encourage me to, well, sleep more. The event happens on my birthday, so I should remember.

Naturally, Pokemon TCG Pocket will be making an expected showing in my weekend plans. I’m now trying to punch my way through the harder Solo challenges… they should be easier now we’re multiple expansion packs in, right? Right??

Aside from that, I’ve found the ultimate time-killer in Puffles. It’s in Apple Arcade, and I’m sure I’ve written about it already, but regardless, it’s a little game about completely sticker sheets, like some sort of reverse-sticker-sheet-meets-puzzle situation. It’s incredibly easy to burn through ten or fifteen minutes on a couple of packs, the stickers are super cute, and it's easy to pass and play with others during downtime.

Transformers: Eternal War is running a Closed Beta Test in my region, so that’s going to keep me busy as I prep for my next Ahead of the Game entry (I do love regional perks). Apart from that, though, I’m still struggling with all the boxes that have taken over my life lately, so - much like my nickname - you’ll likely find me holed up in a box to escape the outside world this weekend.

It has been quite a while since I have hit a game as hard as I have SD Gundam G Generation Eternal. Thanks to a lot of luck and more re-rolling than I care to admit, I have fully evolved forms of both the event UR units and UR supporter. I have also fully completed all the available story missions, smashed the event, and am now working on completing every series’ development plans. All I have to say is the Strike Freedom Gundam is an absolute mecha terror.

Downloading this ignited my Gundam love to such a degree that I went out and bought the R2D2 Xbox 360 as a Star Wars day gift to myself, solely so I can enjoy Dynasty Warriors 3 Gundam again. So, I will be playing two versions of Gundam this weekend, as well as resisting the temptation to spend all my money on Gunpla.

I'm travelling to Greece to visit family, so I won't have much time to play anything new over the weekend. Maybe some Ludus while I'm waiting at the airport, and a few double-ups in Teamfight Tactics.

My biggest plans for this weekend involve none other than Odin: Valhalla Rising. This game has been on my radar, and with its release, I managed to finally install it (spoiler: it’s massive). Now all that’s left is to play a few characters and find exactly what class I am most fond of. Don’t worry, though, I’ll share that in an upcoming article.

Other than the time spent in Odin: Valhalla, I have also a few tasks to complete in Cookie Run: Kingdom: acquire and upgrade the newly-released Eternal Sugar Cookie, beat all the levels in Boss Rush, and - surprise, surprise - FINALLY REDECORATE MY KINGDOM!.

I did some decorating before, but nothing really stood out. It felt bland, but with the new Paradise of Sloth decors (especially the Marshmallow Candy Pillar variations), I feel I can finally create the dreamy kingdom I want my cookies to live in. I might share my results in an upcoming Wrapp!

GeoGuessr has finally arrived on Steam, so I’m probably going to fall back into a rabbit hole playing many, many rounds of that again. I don’t love the Duels mode that it’s stuck in, but at least it stops me from getting sucked in trying to figure out exactly which niche village a countryroad goes through for too long. I’m also itching to play some Mario Kart 8, since I know I unfortunately won’t be picking up Mario Kart World (or the Switch 2 in general) anytime soon. So, I’ll probably have my kart handed to me in that for a bit this weekend.

Aside from trying to climb the ranks in TCG Pocket, I'm also looking forward to trying out Astronaut Joe: Magnetic Rush. It's been a while since I played a puzzle-platformer, and there's something about the nostalgic vibes of this one that's pulling me in. Whether or not I have the precision and timing skills required to get through the 30 levels remains to be seen.

Outside of mobile, I'll continue playing Clair Obscura: Expedition 33. Yes, for once, I'm current on the console and PC scene. It's shocking, I know. I'd thoroughly recommend it if you're a fan of turn-based RPGs that throw in a dash of real-time business to ensure you don't fall asleep at the wheel.
