The genre’s name was adapted from the Japanese movie, Battle Royale and was introduced as a game type in early 2010.

Not everyone likes to play the same game over a period of time as new titles are popping out quite often nowadays. When it comes to the Battle Royale genre, players will definitely become pickier. The choice is usually made by considering the game mechanics, features, graphics and sound effects.

Squad Busters

Developer: Supercell
Available on: iOS + Android
Find out more about Squad Busters
Squad Busters

The newest product from the giant in the mobile gaming industry, Supercell, is everything you can expect it to be. As they are already leading the battle royale genre with Brawl Start, they have decided to create something similar and yet different enough. Squad Busters is a very addictive battle royale where you start with one character and try to build a squad by unlocking more characters as you play. The map is rather big and as you fight mobs, collect coins and new characters to boost your squad, you'll encounter other players. Now, these encounters are the most rewarding, but they can also go very wrong for you in case your opponent's squad is more powerful. Our advice is to just run in case you find someone like that and look for other opportunities.

Art style is literally the same as Brawl Stars, so if you liked that one, you'll love the cartoonish characters presented in this one as well. Quite fun, and one of my personal favourites from this list.

T3 Arena

Fans of Team Fortress and Overwatch will be overjoyed with T3 Arena, as gameplay is very similar, and the art style looks almost exactly the same as Overwatch! There are over thirty different heroes that you can play with, so it won't get boring soon, especially as gameplay is very quick and frenetic. Rounds last up to five minutes and it only takes a few seconds to respawn each time you fall down, which is great in case you can't play longer sessions. Shooting is automatic, but you do have to aim, otherwise, it would've been boring, right? A plethora of game modes like Deathmatch, Payload Escort, Free for All and others will suit most players, as you can pick what you want to play. It never gets boring.

Bullet Echo

Publisher: ZeptoLab
Available on: iOS + Android
Find out more about Bullet Echo
Bullet Echo

Bullet Echo is a multiplayer mobile tactical shooter, and as with most of the titles on this list, it has interesting and dynamic gameplay. The developers decided to add classic shooter mechanics, such as the ability to shoot from the corner. Sounds help the player to determine the location of the enemy. But in mobile games, the sound is not always turned on, so the developers decided to create another feature. If the enemy is not far from you, his steps can be seen on the screen. The same goes for shooting.

To win, you have to plan your actions and coordinate the attack with the team. If you are looking for something different than PUBD or COD, Bullet Echo might be a great choice.

Brawlhalla

Available on: iOS + Android + Nintendo Switch
Find out more about Brawlhalla
Brawlhalla

Brawlhalla is currently one of the most popular battle royale games on mobile phones, with over a hundred million downloads on all platforms, and it's like that for a couple of good reasons. First of all, it's fully 2D and a platformer as well, as most of the battles are fought on platforms that you can fall off of, which is a big part of the gameplay. If you manage to push your opponent, he's gone (in case he can't dash back). There are over 50 characters from different universes, from Rayman and Thor to John Cena! Of course, each one plays differently, and it makes the rounds so frenetic and fun, that it's hard to let it go, especially after a hard day at school or at work.

Farlight 84

Available on: iOS + Android
Find out more about Farlight 84
Farlight 84

With beautiful 3D visuals and effects, Farlight 84 is a title unlike any other. Players can use the heavy mechas and characters to attack other players, and have a lot of freedom when it comes to what is actually possible. Mobile gaming veterans will hop right into the controls and get a hang of things in a game or two, while the rest of you will take some time to figure it out. However, when you do, you're in for a real treat.

The game's real eye candy, it would even put some console titles to shame. If you have some friends, add them, as it will increase the immersion by a huge margin. If you don't have any, add random people that are active. Most of them would love to play a round or two.

We also have a Farlight 84 guide, and Farlight 84 codes, so make sure to check them out if you're about to do a test run.

Hunt Royale

Find out more about Hunt Royale
Hunt Royale

Hunt Royale is a lot different than other battle royale games on this list. In the basic PVP mode it doesn't differ much, kill everyone and anything in your sight in order to survive, no real surprises there. However, it has other modes, where you can play in co-op, hunt in PVE, and play solo if you wish...it's a list of different challenges within one title, and I really think it's amazing. Its voxel graphics is simple but very amusing and colourful. There are over 70 characters to unlock and boost, so it's going to take a while to collect all of them, if you're a completionist. We have a tier list of hunters in Hunt Royale, where they are ranked by their sheer power, so if you're new to the game, we recommend starting there.

Brawl Stars

Find out more about Brawl Stars
Brawl Stars

For some mobile gamers this is a synonym for battle royale games. Supercells' little wonder came out back in 2017 and it crawled onto the phones of millions of players that same year. You could say it's a third-person shooter where each character has their own speciality, and he can fit some roles better than others. There are over 60 brawlers that you can pick at the moment and we have sorted them all out on our Brawl Stars tier list.

Why is it so popular still? Well, the gameplay is smooth, and the graphics is cartoonish, and really easy on the eye. More importantly, the rounds don't last too long, and there is almost no query. You can start the round and end it in a few frantic minutes, enjoying every second of it. For the players that don't have that much time to play, and are looking for a quick escape, without too much investment of your time or brain matter, this is a solid choice.
