Hello and welcome to Ahead of the Game, a series where we tell you all about an upcoming game that, despite not being out yet, is available for you to play at the time of publishing. Through this series, you can grab a chance to play games well ahead of their release date, be that through Soft Launch, Open Beta, Demos, or more.
Despite my love-hate relationship with Hades, I still think it's one of the coolest and most well-made projects out there, both on Steam and on mobile.
Part of the many, many reasons is because of its stunning visuals. The art style is incredibly distinct - with the voice acting even more so - and that alone already makes it well worth a second look if you haven't dipped your toes into the underworld with Zagreus just yet.

That said, this is exactly why Eclipsoul, at first glance, appealed to me so much because I very much get drawn to visuals in a game first thing. And on the surface, the idle strategy RPG does have that same look and feel, especially with the way the characters are designed. Even the rockin' electric guitar riffs during the loading screen seem to aim to emulate that same vibe too - and it's all very, very welcome.
The similarities end there though, as once you get into it, you'll realise that the genres are completely different - and that's not necessarily a bad thing. For one thing, Eclipsoul is an idle RPG - and for another, you'll build your castle walls and expand your structures to buff up your heroes in combat while you're at it.

As you recruit more heroes, unlock armies, and construct buildings that boost your production and firepower, you'll also have to contend with endless tower-esque trials, daily dungeons, and world bosses to score bountiful loot.
The spoils of war include your standard AFK rewards, from useful gear to upgrade materials as well as recruit tokens and summons you can pull from the gacha. As you can expect, rare pulls offer stronger skills and heroes, and because they're all beautifully designed, it's hard to resist wanting to roll the gacha over and over again.
So, how do you play Eclipsoul?
If you're an Android player, you're in luck - Eclipsoul is currently in open beta on Google Play, and your beta version data will not be deleted once the official version launches. This means no data wipes and no pesky rerolls - as long as you get a headstart right now, you can keep your progress once Eclipsoul is officially released. That said, be sure to join the community of followers on Facebook to stay updated on official announcements!
