Follow the Meaning review - "A unique point-and-click adventure"
|
  • Creepy atmosphere
  • Hand-drawn graphic style
  • Tons of different puzzles

From the creators of The White Door, I always have high expectations when it comes to another point-and-click adventure. Follow the Meaning has the same sort of creepy vibes as other games they've created, giving you a slightly off world to explore. In Follow the Meaning, you are detective Paul Trilby, who is looking to solve the mystery around a local Hospital.

After a strange letter is delivered, you travel to this small island, trying to figure out why normal people are admitted to the hospital, and then return to their homes without any of their memories. Something else does seem to be at foot, and these patients need your help.

Solving the Hat Mini-game in Follow the Meaning

Follow the Meaning has a lot of story and text, both through interactions with the characters and through the cutscenes between each chapter. As you solve major puzzles, you're given a look into what is happening in the hospital and why exactly they are performing experiments on the town's people. A giant wall is built around the hospital, further separating it from the rest of the town, and there are lots of whispers about a creator that may or may not exist.

Inside the Submarine in Follow the Meaning

It wouldn't be a point-and-click adventure without puzzles. There are a variety of them here, ranging from more straightforward puzzles where you just need to plug the missing pieces into the right place to some that are more complex with very few hints as to what exactly you need to solve. I spent quite some time on some of the less obvious puzzles, honestly unsure how to look at what was presented and understand the subtle clues to get to the next area.

Follow the Meaning continued to surprise me as the world twisted and changed. The entire game takes about an hour and a half if you are really good with puzzles. It's interesting and captivating, successfully holding my attention throughout.

Follow the Meaning review - "A unique point-and-click adventure"

Follow the Meaning does feel like a very well unique game, with tons of new puzzles to solve and a unique environment to explore. I quite enjoyed my time with the game, even though some of the puzzles could have used a hint for me.
