Foretales is a story-based deckbuilder out now on iOS, coming soon to Android
Foretold

- Foretales is a new narrative-based deck builder
- Arriving from the folks behind the Turnip Boy series, it tasks you with helping save the world
- Or destroy it, that is, depending on your choices
"Will you save the world, or destroy it?" is an oddly common question posed to you by many releases on mobile and otherwise. And Foretales is no different, as you'll be faced with a great many choices in this story-based deck builder that puts quite the onus on you to avoid a terrible fate for the world on iOS (and soon on Android).
In Foretales, you play as the humble thief Volepain, who is plagued by visions of the end of the world. While a deck-builder at heart, each card you play and each choice you make between diplomacy, stealth or just good ol' fashioned hack 'n slash will push the world to one extreme or another.
Naturally, however, there's a bit of levity to the whole setting, given you're interacting with a cast of Disney's Robin Hoodesque animal companions. But at the same time, this is a decidedly dense, story-rich narrative that you'll have plenty of choices to explore, even if you'd rather not have made them.

Nevermore
Coming from the folks behind Turnip Boy Commits Tax Evasion and Turnip Boy Robs a Bank, it's rather surprising that they're diving into something a mite more serious. Bear in mind, I say a mite, as this is still clearly more on the fantastical side than the grimdark of the equation. At the same time, sceptical players need only look as far as the gorgeous art and interesting, visceral (for lack of a better word) animations and UI to see why Foretales is quite exciting. And the soundtrack from Christophe Heral of Rayman Legends fame is just icing on top.
And if you do give Foretales a go and find its narrative-focused gameplay to be fun, why not go ahead and dig into our list of the top five new mobile games to try this week and see what various releases in a swathe of genres there are these past seven days?
