Ahead of the Game - DC: Dark Legion lets fans of the Caped Crusader build a Batcave to save the world
Save the world from yet another multiversal threat

- Collect DC heroes and villains from across the multiverse
- Build your own Batcave
- Don't let The Batman Who Laughs get the last laugh
Hello and welcome to Ahead of the Game, a series where we tell you all about an upcoming game that, despite not being out yet, is available for you to play at the time of publishing. Through this series, you can grab a chance to play games well ahead of their release date, be that through Soft Launch, Open Beta, Demos, or more.
Batman just can't catch a break, can he? It's bad enough that he's got to deal with a psycho Clown Prince of Crime in his own universe - now there's a version of him that's a Joker and a Batman combined.
DC: Dark Legion tasks you with saving the world yet again against The Batman Who Laughs, who actually has his own pretty tragic background (as is a staple for any Batman variant) based on what I've read from the Dark Nights: Metal series. This time around, you'll need to build your own version of the Batcave strategy-game style, then collect hero shards to summon DC characters to help you fight for survival.

Building and upgrading different parts of the Batcave will offer special bonuses to your characters, so it's worth making sure every cog in the machine is running smoothly so that your heroes won't be sitting ducks out there.
It doesn't reinvent the wheel where gameplay is concerned, but I do find it interesting how the one-handed controls when exploring the map let you tap to navigate across the city and auto-fight your way through minor bad guys to get to the bigger bad guys.

The gacha elements are very much at play here, but what makes it enjoyable, for me, is the fact that the characters' personalities are totally on point.
As a DC fan, I'm happy to see that my fave heroes and villains are actually in character here, with their banter and quips very much in line with how they actually are in the comics. Perhaps it's thanks to the official DC license, given how you can recruit villains too to battle by your side.

Now, I'm not actually a fan of the base-building element of strategy adventures, but just because it's the Batcave, the Batman fan in me is all too willing to join the fight.
