Defend yourself with scrumptious sushi

Ahead of the Game - SushiMon Defense is tower defence with roguelike elements, plus lots and lots of sushi
  • Summon adorably derpy-looking sushi
  • Tower defence your way through levels with roguelike elements
  • Now in early access on Android

Hello and welcome to Ahead of the Game, a series where we tell you all about an upcoming game that, despite not being out yet, is available for you to play at the time of publishing. Through this series, you can grab a chance to play games well ahead of their release date, be that through Soft Launch, Open Beta, Demos, or more.

Sure, tower defence games are a dime a dozen, but how often can you find one that lets you summon SUSHI to defend yourself from the relentless onslaught?

Yes, SushiMon Defense lets you deploy all kinds of sushi onto a grid using your witchy powers, and when I say sushi, I mean actual sushi.

Whether you're fending off foes using your trusty Inari Sushi or simply making the most of your salmon toppings by merging one into another, this adorable pixel-art battler has it all - and it'll likely get your stomach grumbling too at one point or another.

All you really have to do is defeat enemies to earn gems, which you can then use to summon more sushi or rearrange their position on the board for a more strategic approach.

Once you've leveled up your sushi enough, you can merge them to form even more powerful sushi, because everything is awesome and having lots of sushi can save your life, it seems.

Outside of the chaotic and ridiculously fun battle, you can summon SushiMon Eggs using currency or by watching ads, each one with different skills and attack stats that can turn the tide of battle in your favour.

And as you progress, you might even score an Epic Catapult Sushi (which is literally a sushi-shaped catapult) in the process.

There's also the Mecha sushi with what looks like a sawblade mounted on top of its head, but my favourite, hands down, is the DJ Sushi, which is basically a cassette recorder on top of a clump of rice. And when you're battling malevolent forces and need sushi to survive, there's no better warrior to have by your side.

So, how do you play SushiMon Defense?

SushiMon Defense is currently in early access on Android, so if you'd like to experience its rowdy battles and roguelike elements, give it a go on Google Play today.

By the way, the instant you boot it up, there's going to be a pleasantly catchy sushi-themed jingle that'll serenade you all throughout, so be prepared to deal with an earworm or two while you're locked in!
