Secrecy is key!

  • Ogu and the Secret Forest is the Epic Games Store's free release this week
  • Explore various lands, gather the six magical sigils and safeguard the Great One's power
  • Meet cartoon animal pals and solve fiendish puzzles while fighting vicious adversaries

The Epic Games Store's freebie of the week programme (our name, not theirs) continues with a new release just in time for the weekend. Ogu and the Secret Forest, also available to purchase on the iOS App Store and Google Play, is now free to claim and keep on the Epic Games Store for mobile!

The best way to describe Ogu and the Secret Forest is as a Zelda-like. This isometric puzzle RPG sees you playing the titular Ogu in your quest to acquire six magical sigils and secure the mysterious Great One's power from those who would misuse it.

To do so, you'll have to explore various different biomes ranging from deserts to grasslands, forests and beyond. You'll also have to fight off various vicious adversaries and solve both familiar and unusual puzzles as you go. While it may seem cute, rest assured, there's plenty of challenge in Ogu and the Secret Forest.

Not-so-secret now, huh?

Ogu and the Secret Forest is pretty pricey on the regular app stores, so grabbing it for free on Epic Games makes sense. And with its wealth of both familiar mechanics and a cartoon twist that makes it stand out from the crowd, it's worth a look for fans of The Legend of Zelda and the Metroidvania genre.

After finally making it onto mobile proper, the Epic Games Store has brought the company's signature free games programme to the fore. While we don't know yet how well it's being received, it may be that this is the metaphorical killer app that draws in sceptical players.

But there's still a heck of a lot of great releases out there on mobile you can play right now, regardless of which store is your choice! Why not go ahead and check out our list of the top five new mobile games to try this week for more options?
