Epic Games Store free games program goes weekly - Super Meat Boy Forever and Eastern Exorcist arrive
  • The Epic Games Store's free games program on mobile is now weekly
  • The latest release is that of Super Meat Boy Forever Mobile and Eastern Exorcist
  • More releases set to arrive every Thursday

The Epic Games Store, only recently released on iOS, is now set not only to continue with its free games program but also to make it weekly! The first round of free releases is already available to install now on Android and iOS, with the hit sequel Super Meat Boy Forever and the spooky, atmospheric sidescroller Eastern Exorcist.

Super Meat Boy Forever should need little introduction as this indie release reignited interest in the hardcore side-scrolling platformer genre. In it, you play the titular Meat Boy on a quest alongside his partner Bandage Girl to save their child Nugget from the evil Dr Fetus. Although you're going to die quite a bit in the process given the noted difficulty here.

Eastern Exorcist meanwhile is a bit more serious, as this side-scrolling action RPG takes you to a Japanese and Chinese-inspired world of monsters, evil spirits and sorcery. Playing as the titular exorcist it's your job to destroy evil while journeying through visually stunning landscapes.

Making the free games program a weekly thing is something that only Epic Games can really do, but I think it speaks to how different the market really is on mobile that they feel this is what they have to do to get eyeballs when people move onto new releases so quickly.

At the same time, as much as I can pontificate about whether this will make the storefront popular, how it'll work long-term, and all that jazz, I do love me some free stuff. And with both Super Meat Boy Forever, a fair take on a sequel in such a beloved series, and the visually intriguing Eastern Exorcist, I can hardly complain.

But if you're wanting to try something else still, why not check out our latest list of the top five new mobile games to try this week for other options?
