The world of Stardew Valley is beautiful as is, but sometimes I feel like it could use a little pizzazz - that's when I turn to some of the best Stardew Valley mods. If you want to try out a modded world to modify some NPCs or even add new ones, in this guide you will find some of my favourites.

Not only that, I have added some Stardew Valley mods that you can use on Android without breaking the game: expansions, NPC portraits, farm styles, and even functional ones. I've shared them all in this list, and split them by category so you can pick between various ones depending on what you want. Or, you can check them all out and install them all (or most of them, at least)!

We have a guide on how to solve the Mermaid Puzzle, and one with the best farm layout ideas if you're looking to create something unique!

Before we get into that though, let me explain how you can install them!

How to install mods in Stardew Valley mobile?

First of all, mods can only be installed on Android. For various reasons, it won't work on iOS, so I'm terribly sorry for the iOS users who want to mod their mobile SV. If you have an Android device, you're good to go!

The first thing you need in order to install Stardew Valley mods on Android is SMAPI. This program might not work on some Android devices, since it hasn't been fully optimised yet (still in early stages). You can download SMAPI for Android here.

Once you have downloaded and installed SMAPI, you can start downloading the mods you want. To install the mods, you need to find the SV Mods folder: "StardewValley/Mods" (/storage/emulated/0/StardewValley/Mods). Unzip any mods you want into that folder, and then run the game with the SMAPI Stardew Valley icon.

Note: Make sure you read thoroughly each mod's description because some of them might require multiple mods to ensure proper functionality. I am not going to go into detail for each mod I've listed - I just shared a list of some of the best ones for you to try!

Now, I say we take a look at the best mods for Stardew Valley, shall we?

Stardew Valley Expanded Mod

stardew valley expanded mod

This is one of the absolute best mods since it adds a lot of new content to the existing game. I especially recommend it for players who have already played the classic Stardew Valley and want more challenges, new NPCs, and new areas. This is one of the mods that you see many YouTubers playing (or trying) after completing the classic SV. It's super fun and I have tried it myself, and I can guarantee you'll love it!

As a side note, it goes well with Ridgeside Valley mod, which also adds an additional area to the game. You can try them both together, or try them separately!

Chests Anywhere Mod

chests anywhere mod

The Chests Anywhere mod is one of the most useful mods you can get. Remember that time you went adventuring into the Skull Caverns only to run out of bag slots after 15 levels? That won't be an issue anymore once you install this mod, since it will let you access chests from virtually anywhere.

You can store automatically from your backpack into any chest without having to leave an area, so that will help you get more organised and complete your days without having to go back and forth.

DaisyNiko's Earthy Recolour Mod

earthy recolour mod

I love the classic Stardew, but I love recolour mods even more. This one is not taking it to the extreme, and it offers such a nice, natural balance to the game. It doesn't add anything else (like SV Expanded for instance), but it is enough if you want to stick to the classic game and just enjoy a neat little visual mod.

DaisyNiko's Earthy Recolour mod is one of the very first mods I have installed myself, and I still use it to this day. I've added a few more mods in the meantime, but it's just brilliant.

Elle's New Barn Animals Mod

new barn animals mod

If life at the farm is starting to get a little boring with the same animals over and over again, with Elle's New Barn Animals mod, you can have a bunch of new four-legged friends to tend to. This mod adds deer, alpacas, and a bunch of other reskins for existing barn animals. It is a beautiful mod to have if you love raising animals, and I highly recommend it - the ostrich are especially fun!

Also, while I'm mentioning this mod, I can't skip another mod created by Elle's, Elle's New Coop Animals. This mod works in a similar fashion, but this time it reskins animals from the coop instead of the barn. You can pick among more adorable bunnies, dinos, chickens and ducks, and I'm all for it.

Community Center Helper Mod

community center helper mod

We've all been in that awkward spot where we had to pull out the big guns ( a.k.a. the wiki) and look up certain items we need to complete the Community Center bundles - I've been there, you've been there, anyone who's ever played Stardew Valley has probably been there. With this mod, you can have that help right in your game interface, and that's something that will surely come in handy if you aren't all too familiar with everything yet.

I recommend using this mod on mobile - it will make your life a lot easier to have all that information in the game without having to go back and forth between tabs to search the wikis and all that. It's super convenient.

Elle's Dog and Cat Replacements Mod

cat replacements mod

These are two mods you can combine or pick between, and they are similar to the other mod I've mentioned by Elle. In essence, you can replace the cats or dogs you pick at the beginning with new ones (reskinned ones), and they're all adorable.

When it comes to cats, you can select a bunch of new cat "breeds" (not quite breeds, but some look like Ragdolls or Siamese cats), most notably the tortie (which I know is not a breed, just a colouring, but bear with me here). This is a mod I absolutely love.

dog replacements mod

As for the dogs, the mod that gives you dog replacements is more focused on breeds (and colour variations). You can pick between German Shepherd, Retriever, Terrier, Labrador, Newfie, Border Collie, Boston Terrier, Bulldog, Bull Terrier, Corgi, Dachshund, and many others. As a dog lover, I highly recommend it if you want to create a farm and feature your own pup.

Fishing Made Easy Suite

fishing made easy suite mod

I have to admit that fishing is not one of my strong points. Every player I know either loves it or hates it - it is a feature of Stardew Valley that I simply cannot get behind, either because my coordination is not that good when I'm manoeuvring a fishing rod, or because I don't have the patience required.

That led me to install this mod, the Fishing Made Easy Suite. There are lots of fishing mods, but for me personally, this is the one. If you are someone who can't bear to go fishing every season and in every body of water possible, this mod will help you A LOT.

Skull Caverns Elevator Mod

skull caverns elevator mod

This is one of the very few must-have mods in Stardew Valley. The longer you play the game, the more you'll need to adventure into the Skull Caverns to get better loot. With this mod, you can essentially save your progress, since an elevator will pop regularly and you can pick up where you left off.

It works in a similar way to the regular mines elevator, but you won't have to stock up on ladders, bombs and food to survive through everything. I highly recommend it - it's been one of the first mods I have ever installed (along with the fishing one).

Way Back Pelican Town Mod + extra mods

way back pelican town mod

You can get a whole new look for Pelican Town and your farm with this mod, and it goes extremely well with the mod I've previously mentioned, DaisyNiko's Earthy Recolour Mod. In the Way Back Pelican Town mod, you will see that all the buildings and trees/bushes have been reskinned to match the atmosphere. It offers the game a very cosy aesthetic, which I think you will love.

Alternatively, if you don't like the Way Back Pelican Town mod, you can go for the Medieval Buildings mod, which is also compatible with Stardew Valley on Android.

To go with this theme, I've also picked a few more mods that you can integrate:

Events Expansion Mod

events expansion mod

To wrap up this list, I've decided to add one mod that gives those of you who love the NPC stories a little something. With this mod, you will have a bunch more unique interactions with each villager (from the classic Stardew, not Stardew Valley Expanded) and the hearts you can get with them will also increase. I love this, since I am all for finding out each NPC's story, even if it is a modded one.
