Dark Spire Legends: Nightfall is a new tower defence RPG out now on Android
Darkness falls

- Dark Spire Legends: Nightfall brings a mix of tower defence and RPG to Android
- Defend the legendary Dark Spire against hordes of encroaching enemies
- Recruit your party of warriors and use their special skills to fight off enemies
The tower defence genre is a particularly vibrant one on mobile. It's simple, straightforward and perfect for sinking many hours of your time into as you fight off hordes of enemies. It's little surprise then that we've got another new entry as Dark Spire Legends: Nightfall looks to combine this with an RPG as you build your party of defenders.
As you might expect, the story of Dark Spire Legends: Nightfall is that you are defending the titular Dark Spire against the hordes of a fallen kingdom. Rather than focusing on building towers, you'll have one central tower to defend, surrounded gradually by heroes that you summon to the field.
There's a degree of interactivity here, too, as much like an auto battler, you'll have the chance to manually execute each hero's special skill and thin the hordes of enemies coming your way. Naturally, after each successful defence, you'll also get the chance to upgrade your heroes to keep them in the fight.

It's not hard to see the appeal of Dark Spire as there's plenty of heroes to unlock, all with flashy abilities as they carve through legions of oncoming soldiers. Admittedly, it's odd that it doesn't sell itself on the obvious appeal of what seems to be stereotypically evil creatures defending their home against hordes of humans.
The only other issue might be repetition, as for the moment, there doesn't seem to be much in the way of variety to the enemies. But at the same time, if you're looking for good mindless tactical fun to tease your brain and satisfy your strategic mindset, Dark Spire should be more than worthwhile.
