Persona 5: The Phantom X to introduce iconic protagonist Joker at launch
  • Persona 5: The Phantom X is set to introduce a new exciting character
  • Joker, from the original Persona 5 will debut at launch as a playable character
  • The Phantom X focuses on a new group of Phantom thieves with appearances from the original cast

Persona 5: The Phantom X, the hotly anticipated mobile spin-off of one of the most popular entries in the Persona series, is slated for a June 26th release. And fans who were otherwise going to give it a pass may want to give it a second look, because an iconic face from the Persona series is set to make an appearance.

Yes, it's Joker (no prizes for guessing) as the protagonist of Persona 5 and leader of the iconic Phantom Thieves is now slated to be available from launch. A special Persona 5-focused event will also give fans of the original release plenty to explore when Phantom X hits iOS and Android.

For those who haven't already heard, Persona 5: The Phantom X functions as a spin-off of the existing Persona 5 on mobile, focusing on a new group of Phantom Thieves that track down and depose evildoers, while splitting their time between RPG battles and the mundane drama of high-school life.

You'll absolutely see it coming

It's not altogether surprising to see Joker arrive in Persona 5: The Phantom X, as we already knew that the characters from the original P5 would be making some sort of appearance. However, it could also indicate that for a worldwide release, Sega and Atlus realise that an original protagonist may be a hard sell.

With that in mind, Joker's debut is sure to be exciting for some, but those wanting Phantom X to exist more on its own merit may be disappointed to see it leaning back on a previous protagonist.
