The Wrapp - Eldritch dungeons, yet more Pokemon, and a spot of tennis

Hey there, welcome to our latest edition of The Wrapp.

This is a chance for you to see what the various members of the Pocket Gamer team are planning to play over this weekend and will, hopefully, give you an idea of some of the weird and wonderful things we get up to when we’re not keeping you up to speed with the latest news and tips. Heck, you might even find a new game to play.

For this weekend, I’m excited to try my hand at Dungeons & Eldritch’s early access as a potential Ahead of the Game entry, mainly because the cover art for the ending of the trailer features a woman who looks suspiciously similar to my beloved Queen of Blades, Sarah Kerrigan. It’s always the oddest things that catch my attention (It’s the visuals. Always the visuals).

Don’t ask me how I’m doing with Hearthstone, though, because I’m terrible at sticking to a single game and even more horrendous at resisting shiny new things.

Yeah, I’ve been playing TCG Pocket more. I’m up to 66/75 now, up from 17, while also moving the needle on the last expansion up to 148 (with only 7 more to nab!). This weekend I’m planning on finishing off Triumphant Light so that I can get back to finishing Space-Time Smackdown before they release another pack. I might even (but probably not) resort to trading in order to realise my grand plan.

In other news, I’ve been playing more of Romance of the Three Kingdoms Heroes, which is like a micro strategy, chess-adjacent situation. I’m hoping to punch further into that. That, and I’m intending to finally sign off on FF1+, which I downloaded a while back for nostalgia, but got heavily distracted away from it by the massive PoGo Unova Tour last week.

There was a lot of talk about morality systems and the sheer difference in power levels between good and evil. This topic is all over the console and PC worlds, but it hasn't really popped up in my mobile gaming journey. Since Cat is keeping the secret "Be evil, do more stuff" title to herself (or it's just not open to the public yet), I must delve into the app stores, itch, and tap, to see what I can find there.

Plenty of options to be an evil overlord or benevolent leader when setting up a company or a society, but that has your role set in stone. I've got to look for those morally flexible characters who can change the world by choosing to do nothing if they want.

Once more my weekend is promising to be an occasional dip into Balatro and then some other sundry items. But what I have found - and mentioned in our podcast recording today - was an app called Living Worlds featuring works by renowned pixel artist Mark Ferrari. It’s basically a wallpaper thingumybob, but it also has a spotting checklist letting you tick off things you see in each scene.

Apart from that, Dredge is definitely tempting me, but I’m not sure how well my somewhat old phone can handle it. Hopefully, if I get an upgrade soon I’ll have a better chance of trying some of the great new releases we’ve got coming this year.

It’s a community day weekend in Pokemon Go, so I am going to be primarily playing that! It’s not a very exciting Pokemon for me, Fuecoco, but it’s the debut of the shiny, which can be. I also have been playing Good Coffee, Great Coffee, which has been extremely slow! I hope to actually level up.

Nothing is particularly grabbing from the new releases this week that I haven't praised to the hills already, so I think I'll dabble a bit more with Retro Slam Tennis. While it has nothing on Retro Bowl, I'm still having a good time. Breaking a fast-paced sport into turn-based rallies is an interesting decision – and very New Star – and it allows for some satisfying moments when getting the power right and tapping the ball in the perfect spot leads to a cross-court shot my opponent has no chance of returning.
